The 60 pieces are chunky enough for little hands to snap together without me helping, and the above/below split got my kid asking why worms live underground. We've done it four times this week already.
My 4-year-old spends a solid half hour finding every snail and butterfly on this floor puzzle, and I love that the underground half keeps her curious about what's hiding under the dirt. The pieces are thick enough that they don't bend when she stomps across them.
